If you are an unlocker and know about 06.15.00 unlock method with ultrasn0w 1.2 , there is a simple way to update to iOS 4.2.1 without basebande update with pwnagetool v4.2 or sn0wbreeze v2.2 . easy unlock and untethered jailbreak But its need you have 05.13.04 bb or below.
Tools needed
1 . Custom firmware for Device :

Download custom firmware iPhone 4

Download custom firmware iPhone 3G Full functions

Download custom firmware iPod Touch 4G

Download custom firmware iPod Touch 3G

Download custom firmware Apple TV 2G

Download custom firmware iPad

2. Download Redsn0w 0.9.6b
3. Download Apple original firmware
Guide :
1. Connect your phone with PC and switch off
2. Open redsn0w and choose Original firmware.
3. If you have newboot just press “yes”
4. now click “Next”
5. Choose “Just Enter pwned DFU mode right now”
6- now click “Next” again “Next” and follow the screen.
* you can useb iReb for pwned DFU mode too.
After that open itunes and press “Shift + Restore” and choose custom firmware 4.2.1
it will finish very quickly
Finally you can see your phones is with your old Baseband. now just you can install the ultrasn0w 1.2 from Cydia
Activate iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G Without Original SIM or Hacktivation with SAM & Redsn0w 0.9.6b6

Hi, I need abit of help I restored my Iphone through itunes so it updated me to ios 4.2.1 and baseband 5.15.04 i’m an unlocker so is there any way for me to now unlock or am I screwed? I know know you can flash your baseband using redsnow but i’m not to keen on doing that.

I have jailbroken 3G ios 3.1.2 baseband 04.26.08.
1) Can I use this tutorial? Do I still need to install the ultrasn0w 1.2 from Cydia even though I have already unlocked iphone 3G when when update to ios 3.1.2 with older ultrasn0w version?
2) Will everything including phone contact, notes, calendar information be wipe out/deleted after update to ios 4.2.1 ? Need to know so I can back up them first.
3) Will itune 10.2.1 update my baseband? if so,,which version of itune should I be using?
4) does anyone has any similar youtube video of using this tutorial?

3- no ! this tutorial is for prevent base band update , use the last version 10.2

1) my 3G Iphone is unlocked with original career sim so do I use custom unactived or active iPhone_3G_iOS_4.2.1?
2) redsn0w has option of update Baseband to 06.15 iPad BB. Do I need to check box it? If not, then my baseband will still be 04.26.08 therefore do I still need ultrasn0w for unlock?
3) What is benefit updating to 06.15 Ipad bb then?
4)redsn0w also have option to install cydia ..is there any different then?

1- use active one its better for you
2 , 3 4 – if use this custom , there is no need to update yr bb to 06 and will be unlock with ultrasn0w 1.2
and you dont need redsn0w simply use iREb for PWNmod its easy

i just updated from iOS 3.1.3 to 4.2.1 (still on old bb 4.26.08). jailbreak and unlock went pretty well. but now i am suffering from severe battery drain and my iphone lost its gps! i alreday tried SAM (Subscriber Artifical Module) which was supposed to help with the battery drain but it seems not to work. every minute of talk time i am losing one% of battery!! most weird of all the issues is the gps thing… i haven’t heard of any issues with gps on bb 4.26.08 yet, only on the ipad baseband due to wrong drivers

Sorry, I’m a bit confused. I have an unlocked iPhone 3G on iOS 4.0.2 and FM 05.13.04. I’m using a different SIM than the original carrier. If I jailbreak with the custom active firmware, do I still need to unlock or will the unlock stay? What should I use to unlock? And once I jailbreak, will all my data remain on the phone or do I need to do some sort of restore? Thanks!!!

when u restore your device with custom firmware , your iOS version will be updated but modem firmware will not updated so u can unlock your baseband with ultrasn0w from cydia
but if u restore with orginal firmware , both ios version & modem firmware will be updated so u cant unlock your device even with ultrasn0w !
before restoring u should get a back up from device with iTunes and after restoring can return your data

iReb is only for put your device in DFU Mode for restore with custom firmware
if u want use custom firmware u should put your device in DFU Mode only with iREB (if use sn0wbreeze dont need run ireb because sn0wbreeze put device in dfu mode automatic)
if possible to go back over it iREB 05:15:04 baseband software with the 4.2.1 baseband 5:11:07 / 5:12:01 / 5:13:04 / soft and 4.1 or 4.2.1 to stay on and to put the baseband to can unlock the iPhone through these baseband 05.11.07 / 05.12.01 / 05.13.04 /

I m on a 3g iPhone already jb and unlocked by my cousin. I had the same exact phone which was stolen from me bout 3 months ago. We had no problems with the old phone but now it’s gone it was on 4.2.1. When we bought this phone from the pawn shop he had problems nothing seemed to work he finally got 3.1.3 on it but the bb is 6.15. I have aweful service and want to go up 2 4.x.x. Any helpful tips before I attempt this or should I just your directions ….thanks alot….

I upgraded Itunes with lost hope and tried restore again. It worked, I didn’t know it was going to delete everything though. Now I’m screwed (but less scared) There should have been a warning and more detailed instructions. Everything’s ok now but I lost my contacts

Hi, I have a quick question. I jailbroke and unlocked my phone using redsn0w and ultrasn0w, but afterward I wanted to reset my phone (3G) because it wouldn’t sync to my iTunes. I did change my baseband to the iPad bb. I tried using my own custom firmware from sn0wbreeze to restore the phone, but it kept giving me error 1015, so I instead used the firmware you linked here. It worked and my phone is working again. I need to still unlock and jailbreak my phone again, yes?
You need to go to settings in your ipod touch and enter your e-mail address and it will sent a veferication e-mail, so you can accept it. Then you can use facetime(: Just make sure your friend does it too!
